Kurt Vonnegut, Writer of Classics of the American Counterculture, Dies at 84 – New York Times

One of my heroes died today… Vonnegut was one of the primary reasons I became interested in writing, and I’ve long tried to develop a style that bears some similarity to his quirky, easily-digestible, laugh-out-loud funny way of putting words together. He stopped writing novels many years ago (clearly having realized that they just weren’t up to par), but he was still a firebrand. Too bad he had to die while Bush was in office, whom he hated with a passion.
