Customer service warning of the day: Don’t buy a TV larger than 27″ from Amazon.com. Ever.

Here I am with my new 32″ Sony WEGA and it’s got a lovely static bar running right across the middle, popping up every 15 seconds or so… and getting worse.

Amazon absolves itself of responsibility for large TVs and directs you to the manufacturer, which in turn has sent me to a local repair operation.

I called them, they didn’t even ask what the problem was. They just asked “How big is your TV?” and “What brand is it?” Then they asked when I bought it. “A week ago. It’s brand new.” Their reply: “Fax us your receipt.”

They’re coming tomorrow to “fix it.”
